paper or...paper?

This is awesome. I can only hope it moves eastward very soon.

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/03/27/environment.baggs.reut/index.html

When we were in Amsterdam for a week over X-Mas 2005, our studio apartment came with a supply of heavy plastic bags. The landlord warned us that we would need them if we went shopping.

Sure enough, when I went shopping for supplies soon after getting settled, I noticed the clerks weren't even offering bags, let alone paper or plastic. If you needed a bag, you had to ask, and you were charged for it.

Thanks to my recent trip to South by Southwest in Austin, I have doubled my stash of canvas shopping bags. And they knock a few nickels off my shopping bill every time I use them. Sweet!

refreshed and re-energized to be sure.

holy crap!

it is 11:09pm in austin, tx. We were supposed to leave at 4:50pm Our NEW plane is supposed to leave in 6 minutes. BUT there are "mechanical problems" with a seat. Apparently they have called the mechanic. We are never going home.

united sucks!

our flight home was seriously delayed due to the plane we were supposed to fly on having "mechanical problems." Right now they tell us we should get home around 1am, after a replacement plane arrives around 10:30 pm. We aren't confident. Mike wants to be compensated with "some sort of a meat sandwich." Stacy prefers a candy bribery.

culinary awesome-ness

"Protein 2000" and potstickers at the all vegetarian joint, Veggie Heaven. I didn't mean to post the same picture twice. I will swap one out with another food pic I took. It was all so tasty.

veggie heaven

near the UT campus. Delicious. Mike is enjoying the Mount Fuji Wrap. Full of "vegetarian chicken".

pizza again?!

standard dinner on 6th street in austin. There are about 37 different pizza windows along the bar crawl. 34 of them are the same company. All of them are mediocre.

ahhhh...

the life of the open bar...

the waitress was wandering through the throngs of badge-wearers with a tray full of Sierra Nevada Pale Ales and shots of Patron looking for a group of geeks that had left the party. I felt it was my duty to lighten her load. I mean, it's all free, right? Ok, the tequila went un-consumed.

inside the paramount

this is the ceiling inside thie old theater that seats 1200.

street pizza and balloon animals

more lines

this time, we are in line to see "knocked up" the latest comedy from judd apatow. He's the guy that made "40 year-old virgin" as well as "freaks and geeks".

team segway

went to church on sunday

the premiere of "what would jesus buy?" was great. More q/a from the good reverend billy, morgan spurlock and the director (sorry I don't remember his name offhand**- he wasn't very talkative) as well as a great performance by the entire "stop shopping gospel choir" followed the movie.

I thought the film was very well done. Like "super-size me" it was a serious message delivered with a good dose of humor. the plan is to have this documentary released at christmas time.

**This post, as well as all others at SXSW 2007, were posted on the spot via my Palm Treo. Some details slipped through the cracks. Thanks to the comment on this post, I was reminded that the director of the film is Rob Van Alkemade. **

showtime

inside the paramount, waiting for the lights to come down. we are all about to learn about the sins of commercialization, as preached by the reverend billy and the stop shopping gospel choir.

waiting in the rain

it's pouring in austin now. Josh and I are in a long long line to see "what would jesus buy?" a new film produced by morgan spurlock.

stars come out at night

the fellow with his back to me is paul rudd. I swear.

spoonful of sugar

Morgan Spurlock talks about the importance of adding a bit of "fun" to serious topics to make them more palatable. Apparently his big, bushy, Ted Kazcynski-like beard has something to do with the next movie he is directing, but he won't say much about it. He hinted that he "might have" spent some time in Saudi Arabia.

family reunion

Mimoco' the company that made my well-used 1gb usb flash drive alien, ta2b (tatoo-bee), has a booth in the trade show. You can see how my little friend used to look back in the third row.

the other side...

just in case you wanted another perspective, angie has been doing some photo blogging from her new blackberry pearl as well. just so you know, I am purposely hamming it up for any photos of me. check it, yo!

birthday blood

ok. Here's my version. We have been roaming around austin sampling a few of the free libations offered up at some of the sxsw parties. I neglected to eat dinner so we decided, on the way back to the hotel, to stop in a pizza joint for a few slices. I was concentrating on stuffing my face so much that I didn't notice two steps to get over the curb after we left the pizzeria. Down I went into the alley along with my dinner and drink.

I don't know which is worse. The fact that I just ruined a good pair of jeans, or that it all happened over less than stellar pizza.

two favorite words...

"cold" and "free"... Josh prefers "open bar." it's all good.

I wish robin was here

for many selfish reasons of course, but also because I think she would enjoy a documentary strictly about one of our most important typefaces.

big birthday bean burrito

deee-licious! too bad it gave me the head-bobs in the next two conference sessions. or maybe it was the two pints of beer i had with Josh.

pull over, man...

I gotta JAM! a tricked-out yaris with a big screen in the back and festival-goers showing their guitar hero skillz.

the podcast pickle

need I say any more?

sxsw swag!!

sine we got platinum passes, they gave us free crap for all three conferences. the big keepers are the cds and sweet canvas totes, which will be added to our non-plastic grocery bag arsenal.

zipa-dee-poo-dah

angie don't like no blue birds, glowing or not, to be hangin out in front of her shoulder.

only in texas...

meat as a garnish. apparently this is some sort of sausage bread pudding that arrives whether you order a vegetaian meal or not.
