my kinda place

We are at the Kentuckey Inn on Pearl and Kentuckey in Denver. This is our third “Bad Bar Night” tour. This evening we are trying to hit the “dive” bars around the Washington Park neighborhood. Other stops included the Candle Light and T.J.’s Lounge. Good times.

robin's new favorite

Peanut butter and jelly smoothis at Laughing Planet Cafe in Portland, a mostly veggie burrito joint.

"honey perfume"

In Portland’s International Rose test garden, this varietal lives up to its name in a big way in that it smells just like a pot of honey. Others (there were hundreds, if not thousands) include “leanne rimes” and “sixteen candles.”

Nothing to learn really. Pick some numbers that don't win. Then we moved onto Jasmine, a cantonese restaurant in Bellagio looking out over the fountains.

oh, we'll miss her...

April's last day. We are drowning our sorrows at an Irish bar 2 days before St. Patty's. The Guinness Girls are in full-effect passing around Guinness drinking gloves and these sticky, glowing, hockey puck-type things that April is so elegantly modeling here.

pink floyd as it was meant to be heard

"On the Turning Away" played on the bagpipes. Downright awesome.

sounds like popcorn

all this stomp-tapping on the hardwood floor of the Irish Rover.

My team-mates got me a fruit bouquet for my birthday. Getting older is delicious! I'm glad I got to try one of the chocolate covered apples, cuz they were good, and gone very quickly.

"Bacon at 'go live' is awesome!"

The launch release is fully catered. Personally, I'm an eggs and taters kind of guy.

it is 4:45 in the morning

The largest conference room in the office is packed full of people, laptops and doughnuts. Today we are launching a major upgrade to "the site." Good times.

Son of SkankHouse

After almost 2 years, our scruffy, weekly poker game has a regular home - salty rods (don't ask) and all. I know I have mentioned the SkankHouse before. Tonight we held the grand opening of the "Son of SkankHouse." Another piece-of-junk house that Shawn bought, only to eventually scrape and build a new modern home in its place. You can actually check the progress of the site of the old SkankHouse here.

just testing

I just wanted to see if I could still send pictures from my phone.

Ok. Here's the deal. I am dying to get an iPhone even though I am ok with my Palm Treo for now. Also, I can't stand it that my wife has not one, but FOUR Apple toys (5G iPod, iPhone, Shuffle, MacBook Pro) that are newer than mine (3G iPod & G5 iMac). With this in mind I have sworn to myself that I wouldn't break down and get a new phone till Apple releases the next generation of the iPhone. Why? Because my current phone just had its' first birthday and I am waiting for 3G network version. Blah blah blah... this is all what my conscious brain tells me. Apparently my sub-conscious has other plans.

My Treo has a nice stripe of dust running right down the middle of the screen. I occasionally think of myself as a tinkerer so I decided I want to open up the case of the phone to give a cleaning with some canned air. I am so inspired that I even go out and get a special screwdriver and search the web for video instructions on dismantling my $300 smartphone. I take it apart (including disconnecting ribbons and wires) and am obviously frustrated to discover that the LCD screen is so sealed that I can't get to the dust. So, I carefully close it all back up and hope for the best.

Cutting the story short–after 4 repeat openings and closings of the case I seem to have all the functionality back (it took 3 tries to get the screen to turn back on) except one minor bit. The microphone no longer works. I call people and can hear them fine, but they can't hear me. Kind of a crucial item you would think.

I am trying to convince myself, and my wife, that I didn't do this as an excuse to go out and buy an iPhone right this very minute. It is very difficult, but I am going to try and make due with the dorky, wired, hands-free headset that came with the phone. I'll feel like a tool, and look like my brother (love you Guano), but I'll still have $400 in my account till, hopefully, the next Apple announcement.

P.S. Oh yeah. The pic is of the pizziolo at Parisi, here in Denver. The food is delicious, if a little expensive for glorified counter service.
